The Neopaganism Deities of the Triple Goddess
featured in our upcoming “Identity” Issue
“This photo series is a conceptual shoot surrounding the neopaganism deities of the Triple Goddess. The Triple Goddess are: the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. In this folklore, the Triple Goddess is represented by the moon phase and they represent the different stages of a woman's life cycle. Our photos are curated in a natural light setup to blend the moon phases associated with the goddesses and how the moon naturally modifies light similar to my love of modifying lighting as a photographer. This allows me to demonstrate my beginnings solely doing natural lighting as a women photographer with an all-women team. The maiden is represented by the waxing moon phase and symbolizes youth, glee, enchantment, and virginity with a brighter composition. It then transitions to the Mother who represents the full moon and she represents fertility, growth, and sexuality, and knowledge. Lastly, the crone is the waning moon cycle and the last stage which represents wisdom, darkness, and death. As a nurse, the concept of life and death is so unique especially since I have taken care of the living and the dying, so to illustrate the crone being less dark and more hopeful was very important to me. This piece reminds me of how connected life is for all beings. The Triple Goddess was a reminder that we all go through life by making certain choices every day that makes us unique. However, to see the human connectivity through it all by relating to others through these natural stages as a people is what keeps us connected.” - Olivia Bernard
