A Cultural Reset: Nicki Minaj Drops Beam Me Up Scotty Across All Streaming Platforms

I don’t care where I am, or what I’m doing, if I hear -

“I was on da plane with da Wayne,

You can call me Whitley, I go to Hillman. Listen, I'm da baddest in da school, da baddest in the game.

Excuse me honey, but nobody's in my lane,”

I’m instantly dropping everything to rap those lyrics like my life depends on it.

Nicki Minaj recently dropped “Beam Me Up Scotty,” the ‘09 mixtape that put her on the map 12 years ago, across all streaming platforms - and honesty, this is the cultural reset we so desperately needed. The rap queen’s hiatus from music left a missing piece in the female rap genre. Because when Nicki said, “Every time I take a break, the game be so boring,” she was not lying.

While we have had some rap girlies that have held us, female rap lovers, down (looking at you, Ms. Doja), the fact remains that the game has been a lil’ stale over the past few months. More and more, rappers are looking towards Tik Tok to push their music and increase their streams, which has created this archetype of everything pretty much sounding the same or super inauthentic.

Nicki going back to her roots was deliberate, thoughtful, and needed. We will be jammin’ to old Nicki songs this summer like it’s ‘09 with our barbie chains again, and I think this will send a message to the newer rap girls to step their cookies up (before they crumble chile …).

All in all, I’m happy that Nicki is getting her flowers today because we have to acknowledge that Onika Maraj is icoNIC.

Happy Nicki Day!! <3
