Doechii: The Music Industry’s Dream and a Rap Girl’s Nightmare

The machine that is the music industry is one of fast pace. It’s constantly working to produce or push the newest musical sensation. Every year we’re introduced to new up-and-coming talent, but the thing is, just as fast as we meet them, we forget them. Not everyone has the talent, work ethic, or spirit to stay on top of the game, but someone who does is Doechii!

Say Hi to Doechii with two I’s, Top Dog Entertainment’s (TDE) latest label member. The 22-year-old powerhouse has caught the attention of the esteemed label through her dynamic sound, storytelling, and overall larger-than-life energy. Her ability to break genre barriers and merge lanes between Indie, Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, and Rap isn’t something we see too often.

Doechii’s latest single, “Crazy” is a sonically pleasing plea of insanity! She hops on the track with a self-assertive tone declaring throughout the chorus, “None of these hating ass bitches gon' phase me!” This confidence level alone is enough to let us know that she’s here for the long run.

Also, with the backing of her new label, TDE, we can only expect her star power to amplify. TDE is well known for its signed artists such as SZA, Kendrick Lamar, Isaiah Rashad, and  Schoolboy Q, to name a few. Doechii fits right into the family as she’s already collaborated with both SZA and Isaiah Rashad. She held the position as opening performer for the Good Days Tour last year in 2021 and performed “Wat U Sed” with Isaiah at the BET Awards within the same year.

If you’re wondering how this all came about, you can thank TikTok! Doechii’s popular single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake”, from her Dr. Suess' inspired “Oh The Places You’ll Go” EP went viral on the video platform, helping her gain the attention of millions all over the world. However, we can’t only thank social media for her breakthrough. Doechii has spoken in interviews about her discipline when it comes to music. She mentions working on the project every single day and even hiring a therapist to help unpack and find her truth, so her music would reflect that.

This kind of dedication to her craft makes it even more evident that she is a force to be reckoned with. 2022 is definitely the year we get to see more of what she has to offer the industry. Mark my words, Doechii will be a household name within the next two years!
